Having Fun Make Your Own Wall Textures, Ceiling Textures

In some parts of the United States, the textures are not the most popular wall textures. Smooth. Same goes for ceilings. This means that a completely flat and devoid of errors.

But here in the wild and woolly Pacific Coast, where I live, gypsum and plaster textures are very popular. Some might say that is because textures tend to hide a bad plaster or plaster work.

In some cases it may be. But it could also be that people have the look of a textured surface HOU. Some adviceceiling and the textures are beautiful.

In my work with old plaster and plaster, I think that the demand for wall and ceiling texture to be high, and I have my deck of cards tissue sample to show clients.

Most of my work in both match an existing structure or use of one of my unique pieces.

And sometimes my customers like to see, as I sit on the plot they choose. I could comment would be heard: "Hey, that looks fun!" and "How hard is it towhat? "

And my answer to both types of questions is: "Yes, it was fun and I bet you can learn to do it."

Sometimes I realize that they are not 100% honest when I say this. After 35 + years, is not always fun, and yes, some textures take some 'practice to do well – but behind my response is not a strong core of truth is primarily a fun project that a motivated do-it – yourselfers can master with practice and patience.

It may mean you!

ButBefore you jump with both feet, let me give you some tips to get started with it. These are things I've learned over the years, some by trial and error.

Because … I do not always get it right the first time. And you probably will not. Hence the need, when to go, to experience and practice.

The easiest texture materials to be used is designed for plaster. They work for plaster as well. They adhere to both painted and unpainted plastergypsum.

Default for all compounds for uitgedun plaster and can be used as texture. Or you can buy boxes of pre-mixed texture compound. Texture is composed as bags of powder. (At least true for the United States)

Pre-mixed texture mud may uitgedun. The same goes for the pre-mixed all purpose muds. If you mix the texture composed of dust, dust to maintain the relationship between water, so you can copy it after you in the future.

The only way to know ifYour mud is the right thickness is by experimenting with the tools and structures to achieve the desired effect.

Some effects need thicker mud, a little 'thinner. If the mixture of dust, remember that it is easier to dilute the mix Inital compared to thicken it. In any case, when mixing from scratch, weekend night to soften lumps and make it smooth.

Texturing tools can drive directly from tape to trowel blades, brushes of various types of rollers and even texturebusiness tools texturing process.

I also use my hands, ala Finger Painting in elementary school. What fun!

Different words to emphasize: EXPERIMENT, consistency, patience.

To experiment, to discover the depth of the mud that is easier to work. You get the tool that you like. Consistency in the application is your goal.

(For example, there are a couple of incredible beauty, texture effects I can do, but I have a very difficult time coming to be consistent acrosswall or ceiling, especially if they are large.)

And patience will ensure that you do not give up easily. Give yourself time to learn.

You must make sure your exercise technique before you tackle that wall or ceiling. Fragments of plaster or heavy cardboard or plywood, painted also function as a surface replacement.

One thing to remember – when you go for the truth, they are committed. E 'when you start, you have to go corner to corner, the whole thing. With manytextures, there is no way left in the middle.

That's why I probably have started small. Try a small ceiling, or a small room of walls. If you can do to make your satisfaction, you're ready for something bigger.

If you've already done and ready for painting, be sure to use a good weapon plaster primer (PVA) first. This will limit the porosity of your textured surface and form the basis for a coat of paint much better later.

Now, a fewfun!
